When clones attack, Verify First's technology fights back Lucasfilms
successfully defended itself against a serious clone attack long
before the production began on the latest installment of the tremendously
successful Star Wars saga.
Almost two years ago, Lucasfilm representatives became concerned
that the script Part II: Attack of the Clones, would be a target
for unauthorized duplication. They sent a stern warning to anyone
who was even thinking about excerpting or critiquing the top-secret
document prior to the movie's premiere: duplicate it and die, or
at least suffer extreme legal prosecution.
It took more than light sabers and an army of Jedi lawyers to
defeat the dark side of the Force when it came to protecting the
super-secret
plot line, however. It required an armada of space age patented
security features built directly into the paper upon which the
script
was printed. ProDocumentSolutions, Inc. printed those security
features under license with Verify First Technologies (VFT), developer
of
more
patented document security technologies than any other company
in
the world.
"We produced a technology strategy using some of our most
effective patented technologies for Lucas' JAK Australia Pty.
Ltd.,
organization," said ProDocumentSolutions' Chief Executive
Officer George Phillips. "The paper itself contains invisible,
fluorescent fibers and both sides have a custom ghost watermarking.
The paper
incorporates a chemical "void" process and color change
technology. Onto the paper's surface, we printed words in a ThermoSafe,
heat-sensitive microtype. Each page contains a unique code number
in a secure MetallicSafe® process. Also, each page displays
a TamperSafe® hologram in the corner, making duplication extremely
difficult, if not impossible." Phillips said his company
did not actually print the scripts for the film, but supplied
the security
script paper to the filmmaking company in sufficient quantities
to create approximately 50 scripts.
If movie-goers are standing in line wondering why they don't know
more about what they are about see in the theater, the answer lies
not in a galaxy far, far away, but in the services of Verify First
Technologies.
Verify First Technologies provides document security features worldwide
for governments, financial institutions, medical organizations,
and educational institutions, to name a few. VFT is headquartered
in Paso Robles, CA.
